Refined Sunflower Oil, is both healthier and more robust for cooking than olive oil. The demand, particularly in Europe, Middle East and India, is rapidly outpacing the supply. This is especially true now that Ukraine (the world’s leading supplier) is having so much internal strife since November 2013. Even when Ukraine does settle it political affairs, RIE has three firms in Kiev, in which we share the same owners. We have already made a tender offer to acquire the second largest refinery in western Ukraine (far from the internal turmoil that has disrupted their daily life). RIE has also made a tender offer to purchase a brand new state-of-the-art sunflower oil refinery in Spain. It is virtually unused. The patriarchs of the families of both these refineries have passed; the children have no interest in the business. Until we finalize these acquisitions, we have concluded bulk purchase contracts with refineries from three separate countries. These total more than 150,000 Metric Tons (“MT”) of liquid product per month, with options for an additional 200,000 MT per month.
