Thanks Rattlewatch for sharing your opinion & the Gsat tracking link

Gsat tracking capability shows an 80% efficiency .. still missing large ocean areas

Here is a sad reminder .. for a need of a global tracking capability. One that can’t be turned off from within:

“Malaysian PM says lost airliner was diverted deliberately”

“Earlier, a source familiar with official U.S. assessments of electronic signals sent to geostationary satellites operated by Britain's Inmarsat said it appeared most likely the plane had turned south over the Indian Ocean, where it would presumably have run out of fuel and crashed into the sea.

It is possible that the military radars were switched off as we operate on an as-required basis. So perhaps secondary radars were operating, which may not have the required range to detect a flight at an altitude of 35,000 feet."

If we’re supplying the means to track on a global scale:

"The agreements require GTC to provide specialized satellite tracking devices, satellite airtime and online mapping capabilities to organizations wishing to locate and monitor the movements of a variety of mobile assets across the world. These asset tracking contract requirements include locating shipping containers, commercial cargo vessels and high-altitude balloons.

GTC will provide specialized satellite tracking hardware operating on the Iridium and Globalstar networks, together with airtime and access to its proprietary mapping portal, GTCTrack, which enables the tracking devices to be visually located and monitored by customers in near real-time from a PC or mobile device. The tracking devices provided by GTC will send predefined messages with their respective GPS locations and other information required by customers to track the beginning or end of an asset's journey or its movement out of a pre-authorized zone."
