You don't have it straight. The SGM is not the decision maker, jut a user/operator that the decision makers rely upon for input. He was not impressed with LEI, their unit, nor their sales pitch.
He told me they came in for a product demo a long while back (early 2013 or maybe even 2012) and brought only one unit. He said it worked just as well as their other hailing warning lasers but they immediately identified several drawbacks as compared to their current LA-9/P’s. He said at the time they didn’t have the adapter that would let it be picatinny rail mounted to the rifle so the demo was all done by hand. He said that in a side by side comparison it was slightly longer, a little thicker and significantly heavier than the current unit they are using. He said almost twice as heavy by feel. That would not be too much fun carrying around an extra pound at the far end of your shorty M-4. He also said that it did not have the capability to demo any sort of remote fire mechanism/trigger. That means if they had been able to rail mount the laser, the operator would either have to remove his hand from the weapon grip or forward rail to push the button on the actual laser. The current unit has a wired remote trigger that is mounted just above the weapon trigger guard so the operator can simply move his finger off of the weapon trigger to fire the laser. He doesn’t have to reposition his entire grip and therefore his firing solution just to activate the laser. They claimed to have a rail mount and remote fire trigger but neither were available to show or test.
Bigger, heavier, not as capable. Tht doesn't compare well.
What was your best cops assessment wen he had tr actual Daser in his hands?
