The Dane . . .I don't know of an exact scale of an oboe vs. bassoon. Perhaps as Nightcrawler alluded to, the reason for the comparison was the name for the well being obo-1, thus the statement - this is not an oboe; it's a bassoon. I even thought at one time the length of the instrument might be important to the statement since the oboe is much longer; therefore, the depth being much deeper (the 800++ statement), but perhaps all that is making too much of the comparison. I think it is just a play on words of obo(e) and comparing it to something in the same family being much bigger.

Dane, Texas Speculator: Just dawned on me, CVX drilled OBO(e), and found it was bigger than the OBOe expected and a deeper (note), hence a BASSOON.

Nothing to do with shape, all per the arcane mind of Oilphant!!!

Just one of the entertaining tunes get played on this board. Brings to mind the nameless poster with the common longitude, JDZ and London, plays it all like a violin (Stradivarius).

Some other poster said Mensa puzzles and games . . .

Has anyone thought to ask the poster regarding the bassoon what he meant? Seems like a lot of speculation over something that should be able to be cleared up quickly.
