They are not linking anything... Just announcing a new vehicle they are working on. How would you like them to announce that they are working on this vehicle? Not like they can announce it and not say they are working on the Tesla which unfortunately as you said "links" them together. There is no way to get around that.
This is no different then what he has been doing with the mustang since 1984.
