Your money did not go to the government, it went to whomever you bought those shares from. Get it? You bought a bucket of smoke, and the seller walked away with your cash, and at the time you were both happy. Then the scam gets stopped, and the wind of the SEC blows your smoke away....now you have an empty bucket.

Over here we usually refer to the government as the government, not the State. Did you mean the government?
