I think this idea of going to jail is overly stated here.
Hell, I see many stocks move up in price hours before news is actually released, all of the time. Nobody is ever (very, very rarely at worst) jailed for that but obviously investors were using information we all don't have to buy the stock before the public PR.
Also, the issue is with "inside" information. If I am not an insider and I go to a public meeting in NJ and acquire information there, then there is no risk whatsoever that I would be prosecuted for disclosing information I heard at that public meeting. None!
Again, the information must be undisclosed and come from an insider for it to be illegal. If I can go out to Toms River and see that plant being built, I can tell the world that and there's nothing illegal about it. So... if FFI disclosed publically in NJ what the profit numbers are then if I can find that information, I will post it with no fear.
Just sort of tired of this "jail time" fear thing...
