The only other application I can think of is what people traditionally associate the immune system with, infection. The main difference I see between a mass-like tumor versus an infectious process which may be a more diffuse process is 'arranging' for the dendritic cells to 'meet' up with the antigens associated with the infection. That may be a tough hurdle but I'm just speculating. A solid tumor is a nice physical target in that sense.
