My guess is that both thought that they could profit from an investment in a company that is exploring the pharmaceutical application of CBD under the "507" patent.
CannaVest may be hoping that they can eventually produce a pharmaceutical-grade CBD that will be bought at a high enough price to justify the development.
The thing is, it will probably be cheaper to produce pharma-grade CBD from marijuana strains like Charlotte's Web grown indoors in controlled environments than from industrial hemp grown outdoors.
