Think Chess Not Checkers.

Honestly it is anybody’s guess. I once had faith in Norwood but honestly with his affiliations with the U of W and what certainly appeared to be shenanigans back in the day between Dalton, U of W, Lumera and Lightwave suffice it to say that I’ve always kept a skeptical eye on work from that lab.
I didn’t watch the video, I like Jen, but one just has to wonder though if I’m not correct in my suspicions and What Was up with that Opsis move?. I’m keeping the faith in this the productization year, I’m sure that we are moving along and I’d bet that they certainly are learning a lot from the 100’s of waveguides that will be at the heart of many of Lightwave devices and looking forward to the Opsis (not sure which foundry), run. This is interesting to watch play out, the various entities (business, entrepreneurship, academia, government etc.) all working on this, some holding cards back, some outright deceiving, some laying their cards on their table and some just quietly pounding away.
Since day one it has been an uphill battle here and I do mean uphill, I thought years ago that we were there but IMO we can now see the top of the mountain but,,,,, are not there yet, over the years there have been many forces, some intentional, some bad luck, some outright stupid mistakes yet through all of that they managed to attract some of the best in the business with very limited money. With input from Miller and Leonberger, Z wants the waveguides, followed by a working custom designed device. IMO (other than satisfying some of the shareholders that have never produced an EO polymer device in their life) Lightwave (at this very movement) has no reason to publicly disclose things; on the other hand academia has all the motivation to do it. Remember guys there are many, many devices, if we end up with 10% we will be very, very successful, I think the goal is more like 50% of the market I like the ol 80/20 rule.

Food for thought: I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Opsis told U of W that they were moving to Delaware, who or what prompted that?, I also would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when AZ found out that Lightwave was pulling out. There are many behind the scenes things that we can only speculate about. Someday we may find out.

Gotta Run, sounds like some of those birds followed me be back from Costa Rica.
