Underestimated floor space? Maybe, but perhaps they underestimated output and the number of furnaces required. Or they have added another requirement to supply an additional iDevice.

I originally saw 900 furnaces and now recently 1700. However, the floor space estimated for the 900 furnaces was about half of the building from what I read. So the extra furnaces will fill out the facility, but what about the additional building? I also read that many materials cannot be bonded to Sapphire glass, but LM does so nicely. This would make sense to prepare cases in proximity to each other, but it is a wild guess for sure. One thing is certain, Apple has spent a lot of R&D dollars working on this. For me, it is an eventuality. Whether it pays off to LM directly is something we don't know, but the indirect benefits are enormous.

One interesting note: they are producing sapphire glass in the facility now using generators. How desperate are they to be in production using generators? Something must be close to launch.
