It's amazing how one sentence of a post about historical activity in reply to another comment can generate so many responses. The topic seems to have drifted from the actual beginning of when the right to bear arms actually was concieved.

Now, were we going to discuss Blackstone's interpretation of when the British allowed guns, or did we want to discuss the old west, after democracy was instituted?
Cleary, Hollywood demonstrated sufficient cause for gun control, and even developed apparently factual plots involving gun control. The "check your guns" policy was noted in many movies. Are you saying that they didn't use "gun control" as a plot line in the movies, and that "the people" were never opposed to it?
