On the powder metal acquisition (ie AP&C)...

Shortly after this story broke, another announcement was made regarding a new process of producing titanium powder for a potential 75% savings and that a company is planning to build a 500 million dollar plant that utilizes that process.

At first read I thought...oof...Arcam just bought into depreciating technology. However, after digging in a bit more I realized that, although the new process can yield powders of good quality, it cannot yield Aerospace quality.

The powders that AP&C (now Arcam) creates are of higher quality and meet the Aerospace requirement. With Aerospace making preps to move from printing prototypes to production parts, I think Arcam will do very well from this deal. Many shops that use DMLS machines from Arcam's competitors will likely also become Arcam clients as they will need to purchase high quality titanium powder for their Aerospace orders.
