there is no such thing as 'tendrils'. tumors metastasize by having individual cells break off the primary tumor and float in the blood or lymphatics and take root elsewhere. kind of like seeds from a flower fly off in the wind to land somewhere far where they may or may not succeed in germinating.

now why do they not inject more tumors? well the premise is simple. if the injected DCs manage to mobilize a local immune response to the injected tumor the hope is that a systemic response against other tumors will be mounted as well. there is no physical connection between the primary tumor and metastases.
