Tendon Injury
Tendon injuries are one of the largest causes of wastage of performance horses. A tendon sprain or bowed tendon involves the breakdown of elastic tendon fibres which under the normal healing process are replaced by inelastic fibrous scar tissue which when put under the stress of exercise is prone to breakdown again – a career ending injury.

Can a bowed tendon be treated?

How does it work?
Tendon cells are taken non traumatically from the injured horses neck ligament. Over the next 10 days these cells are treated in the laboratory to revert back to an embryonic stage of development. They are then transplanted back into the injured tendon site.
Does the therapy use complicated surgery?
No. All procedures are performed under sedation and local anaesthesia with the horse standing. The horse doesn’t even stay in hospital.
