I have never ceased to be amazed that companies invariably reduce their research budgets first when tightening their belts. Apparently they live the moment and fail to see that for high tech industries and the likes every $ spent on research today is usually paid back multiple times in the future.

Sometimes the stock market seems like sailing a wooden ship into a sea of burning oil.
