I have a theory on that as well, in a five minute fire fight you might have the thought in the back of your head "hope this thing, don't jam" but I can guarantee you that the last thing on your mind is going to be the ammo cost! "Better slows way down these were.80 ea." Lol... Just not seeing it 
Now for just shooting I use the bot to find it and only buy boxer primed #1 brass. Then for the same.35 you can reload it with ballistic tip hunting rounds and as hot as you like or your gun likes! Lol... And keep those for later, that's how I roll! Sit around when I have nothing but time, like in the winter when it's too cold or wet and take my time building exact replicas of the same round, by hand, one at a time, over and over and over. Kind of boring but you get stuff that sells for $2-$3 ea. for around .35
