American satellite services provider EchoStar Corp has released a statement noting that it is no longer in talks with Brazilian broadband provider Global Village Telecom (GVT) regarding a plan to establish a joint venture vehicle to offer pay-TV services in the country. No definitive reasons were given for the decision, however. Discussions between EchoStar Corp and GVT, a unit of French media and telecoms group Vivendi, began in October this year. The pair had hoped to set up a pay-TV service in Brazil ahead of the upcoming FIFA football World Cup and the Olympic Games – which is also being hosted by Brazil.
