Land is being bought up all along the coast and as US and other expat retirees buy up all the condos the rise in land values is spreading inland. The canal will make those places even more valuable and since Nicaragua is doing everything they can to make their country more hospitable to foreigners, the popularity of Nicaragua as a vacation and/or retirement destination will skyrocket. People are already buying in Nicaragua, Panama, Belize, etc. like there's no tomorrow. Beautiful country and beaches plus a low cost of living beats most US retirement destinations.
