You probably meant to write: "China is looking at a minimum of 2400 tonnes short term and 3000 tonnes long term." China Central Bank already holds 600 tonnes of aurum.

As an aside, different system of weights and measures are certainly a headache at times.

16 ounces avoirdupois = 1.0 pound (lb.) avoirdupois (the pound of commerce)

short ton = 2000 lbs. (avoirdupois, Old French, lit. goods of [sold by] weight)

one long ton = 2240 lbs. (avoirdupois)

one tonne = one metric ton = 1,000,000 grams = 1.102 short tons = 2204 lbs. (avoirdupois)

To make matters worse, smaller amounts of gold are measured in troy weights.

one ounce troy = 31.103 grams = 1.0971 ounce avoirdupois

one pound troy = 12 ounces troy = 373 grams = 0.8216 lb. avoirdupois

Now, I am certain everyone is thoroughly confused. lol
