Why?
It's ok to dissent. And in fact, I am not sure of what I wrote so thank you for testing my thoughts. Maybe you are right and there is never a public outcry.
I suspect though it is easier to justify using public funds to fight "combatants" than money managers that are stewards of ordinary people's money.

Actually, I am nervous about the lawsuits...
My main -perhaps imaginary- fear is not the courts or the perceived enormous power of the US government to defend itself but the apparent global trend that has been in place in many, many countries around the world by which governments have been seeking to strengthen themselves on the back of common citizens. Here, in the US, you go from the Patriot Act to eminent domain and anything in between. In other parts of the world you see similar tendencies -different greys- but a power grabbing behavior that sometimes borders abuse. There is always the right excuse, a way to legalize the maneuvering, a need that justifies the action. So my fear is that governments are not allowed to lose under any circumstance, anywhere, with all three powers in sync.
