So when is the last time you saw one of these public outcries against the government spending too much money to defend the government (taxpayers)? Keep in mind not many will being shedding tears to see the government go up against the hedge funds. I not sure we are in our best positioning for public sympathy if we have the face of a hedge fund.
Also, I don't think it is general public knowledge how much the government spends on legal fees such as this. These cases are long and drawn out and the expenses are long and drawn out as well.
I know these are the kind of replies that get me in trouble but it is my 2 cents. It is easy to understand our point of view of wanting justice, but I think we need to keep in mind that the public may have a completely different viewpoint as what they think would be a just settlement. I think your former boss made a very good point.
