Hey folks. Have a Terminator problem that one of you might be able to help with. A while back I powered up the computer and it went through one of those 'computer was not shut down properly, will run scandisk' deals. Since I had left to do something as it was booting up, and it already doing the scandisk I let it. Well, after that the computer was screwed. List of problems:

No sounds
Cannot copy/paste
Cannot move files or save them to another directory (tried this in command screen as well)
Programs don't show up in the task bar at the bottom of the screen even though they are open
Cannot recognize the computer on a network
Cannot print
Existing virus protection doesn't work
Other existing programs like malwarebytes, glary utilities don't work
Probably others that I have not found or have forgotten

What the computer still does.

Can use the internet
Can use email, and can use attachments
Seems like I can open all programs, and can save from within a program
Can switch between programs and multi-task. (Alt-Tab as the taskbar doesn't work)
Can still download and install
Can delete
Can use Explorer and see all drives including DVD and USB
Can search

What I have done.

Downloaded new anti-virus. It installed and it scanned. No viruses that it found
searched for scandisk viruses on google and did not find much info
Was able to transfer some files but many are still on the computer.
tried to re-install the OS, but it failed. Its still XP so its pretty old.
Went into my external hard drive to look at the back up and have to say that it seems pretty useless. i can't get anything useful out of it.

I have not done a whole lot more other than just setting myself up on my laptop. When this happened I was pretty busy and now that our season is over I am looking at it more closely. If nobody can offer a solution to actually fix the computer, some suggestions for transferring data would be appreciated as well. The only one I have not tried yet is install a new OS to a DVD and run it from DVD. (ie. Ubuntu)
All the hardware appears to be working.
The dual hard drives are in a RAID 0 array, so simply removing one and getting the data off of it is not an option.
I have no problem simply reformatting the hard drive, but I want to get some data off of it first.

Thanks for your help.
