With the fast pace of technological inovation, IMO there is plenty of merit to mass filing of patents. Assurances that patents are relevant to the modern communications system become moot when you have big dogs in the industry wanting to play the indemnification game.

IDCC had plenty of relevance in TDMA/GSM years ago only to now more than a ridiculous decade or more later get some meaningful validation, ie. Ericy.
