Apple has rights to the CIP and putting lqmt material in their products. But since the machine patent isnt a concumer product... But can be used to make consumer products i dont think that exclusive right applys which means samsung or droid could use it to produce consumer electronics. LQMT is partnered with ENGEL and will recive income off of sales of that machine. Lqmt devoloped the part to convert that machine to process our materal. Lqmt owns that part and will recieve money related to the sale and replacement parts of the paticular piece.
Once the patent expires apple doesnt have exclusive rights to putting this material in CE. They might have exclusive rights on one paticular chemical make up of LQMT material. However people can find subsitute materials to replace a few materials and the new product should function simular to the old one. Since properties would be simular but not exact the the patented induction heating system and nosel or w/e its called could still work for the other coppy cat alloys. This system might be the only way to cost effectivly do this for the next 20years.
If this specualtion is right LQMT tripped and fell on revenue or was playing dumb for a long time since 2010 or so with its apple deal... Apple might have know this and just wanted first crack at it before every starts messing with it for consumer electronics and they released their patents now to protect future use in their CE projects.
Basicly we became supplyers of not the metal but for the manufacturing process. These guys seem to be only focusing on manufacturing looks like they stopped mostly with selling of products... With the income off of that we wont be producing our own products but researching how to make thicker alloys and creating a manufacturing proccess out of that. Then they sell new machines that produce beams etc.
Just somthing that ran through my mind... Speculating.... Research it.
