MDBX - WeHo firm wins Canadian automated pot distribution rights

What a world of difference between the US and our neighbors to the north. A local company just scored a major contract to supply Canada with automated pot dispensing machines.

West Hollywood’s Medbox, Inc., a firm offering consulting services and patented systems to the medical and retail industries, announced today that they will begin to provide Canada secure medical marijuana dispensing systems and turn-key dispensary consulting services.

The nation’s health care system, named Health Canada, is phasing out an older medical marijuana distribution system that mostly relied on small-scale, homegrown medical marijuana of varying quality.

In its place, large indoor marijuana farms certified by the RCMP and health inspectors will produce, package and distribute standardized product.

Medbox began doing business supplying secure dispensing machines in 2010 and claims to hold “United States & Canadian Patents concerning the software and hardware related to our medicine dispensing systems.”

The government is placing no limits on the number of these new facilities, which will have mandatory vaults and security systems. Revenues for the burgeoning new industry are expected to hit $1.3 billion a year by 2024, according to Canadian federal projections.

“The Canadian market presents a significant growth opportunity for our company,” said Dr. Bruce Bedrick, CEO at Medbox, Inc. “The government has mandated that marijuana is stored in secure systems, and dispensed in a tightly controlled environment. The Medbox patented system is the premier means of providing secure storage and dispensing,” he added.

“We expect that our expertise and leadership position in medical marijuana clinic operations in the United States, along with our patented storage and dispensing systems, and our unparalleled track record in helping entrepreneurs secure marijuana dispensing licenses, will be warmly received by the Canadian government and by those applying for operating permits.

In related news, Medbox has been contracted to file dispensary license applications and build-out facilities in the states of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Oregon, Illinois, and Nevada. The company also reports that it has been contracted to obtain recreational retail licenses and build out facilities in the states of Washington and Colorado for its clients.

The firm has offices worldwide, but the headquarters are on the Sunset Strip.
