Patent is 14 years old...there was a big push by Scott in 2010 to sell his concept (Leno's Garage, Automobilemag.com, etc.) which resulted in nothing.
So what has changed here? Why is this product so revolutionary now when it wasn't 3 years ago?

Well said! That's why there has been no transparency from the two companies regarding their agreement IMO. They're simply hyping and milking a product that the market evidently doesn't consider very 'usefull'...nothing new in pennyland. This is probably the beach of last resort for JS before his patents expire. This investment opportunity would have been gobbled up by a Venture Capital firm years ago if there was a huge market for it. A product is what everyone else sees it as, not what the inventor sees it as.
