Sound like V should work. High doses of fish oil.

TINNITUS

The most likely cause of tinnitus is pressure on the cochlear nerve (which leads from the brain through the skull to the inner ear).

This pressure is probably caused due to a calcium deficiency leaching calcium from the bones in the skull for more immediate use in the body.

This loss of calcium from the skull stimulates your body to produce more bone matrix in anticipation of incoming calcium (which never comes unless you supplement).

This extra bone matrix probably puts pressure on the cochlear nerve damaging the nerve and causing abnormal links to the central auditory system and the limbic (emotional) system in your brain.

The side effect is ringing in your ears.

TINNITUS AND EICOSANOIDS

Tinnitus is also linked with chronic pain, stress, and possibly allergies.

All these are probably caused or worsened by a poor eicosanoid balance (remember eicosanoids are the master hormones).

This link is interesting because remember tinnitus is probably caused by the stangulation and damage of the cochlear nerve leading to the inner ear and possibly damage to the central auditory system and the limbic system in your brain.

To repair nerve endings and to lay down brain tissue requires DHA (found in fish oil).

The primary indicator of an ideal balance of good and bad eicosanoids (the master hormones) is the ratio in your blood of arachadonic acid (used to make bad eicosanoids) and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA (used to make good eicosanoids).

EPA is also found in fish oil.

So it's quite common to find low levels of EPA and low levels of DHA in the same person.

Or to put it another way its quite common to find the symptoms of those low levels together.

For example neurological problems (not enough DHA to lay down brain tissue and repair nerve endings) and chronic pain and inflammation (not enough EPA to make good eicosanoids) often exist in the same patient.

TINNITUS AND ELEVATED INSULIN

Tinnitus has been linked to elevated insulin and poor glucose handling in the body.

This link is consistent with poor eicosaonoid balance as excess insulin is most often the primary cause of the overproduction of bad eicosanoids.

TREATMENT

CALCIUM

Supplement 2000mg of calcium and 1000mg of magnesium daily. Also pancreatic enzymes and betaine HCl to allow absorption of the calcium (optional).

In Australia:

Bioorganics essential enzymes.

2 capsules a day.

(1 capsule twice a day 15 minutes before meals).

Natures Way Super Calcium Complex.

Take 8 capsules every day.

(4 capsules twice a day immediately before the meals where you've taken the enzymes).

FISH OIL

4x1000mg health food grade fish oil capsules every day.

The ideal dose is two to four times this amount but would require taking 4 to 8 capsules of pharmaceutical grade fish oil which is expensive.

4 capsules of fish oil you buy at the health food store is probably the upper limit for this poorer quality fish oil.

ZINC

Zinc has been shown to reduce the symptoms of tinnitus (around 50mg a day).

Take 2xStrepsils Zinc Cold Relief lozenges every day ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

Continue this for two months then reduce the dosage to 3 to 4 lozenges a week as long as the symptoms of tinnitus don't reappear.

Long term usage of zinc can cause problems with copper absorption hence the importance of having zinc on an empty stomach and reducing the dosage in the long term.

OTHER SUPPLEMENTS

Other useful supplements include one or two daily multivitamins, colloidal trace minerals daily (Thomas Jefferson Clark colloidal minerals or Majestic Earth colloidal minerals) and gingko biloba.

DIET

A diet with the correct balance of carbohydrate/protein/good fats is also helpful both to reduce any chronic pain and inflammation common in people with tinnitus and because tinnitus is linked to blood glucose problems like diabetes.

The correct carbohydrate/protein balance in particular can help deal with this problem.

ALLERGIES

You can use the arm test to determine likely allergies to foods etc and try to avoid or eliminate these allergens from your life.

EXERCISE

High blood pressure and excess fat are also linked to tinnitus.

A combination of strength exercises (abdominal crunches, push ups and squats) and endurance exercise (jogging or brisk walking) for around half an hour a day would be ideal.

Build up to this level gradually.

SLEEP

Tinnitus often causes sleep problems.

Sleep patterns can be restored by:

Taking 3mg of melatonin one half hour to one hour before bedtime for up to two weeks.

Avoiding bright lights in the hour or two before bedtime (red light is alright)

By ensuring 15 to 30 minutes of sunshine (indirect is fine) when you get up in the morning.

RELIEVE EMOTIONAL DISTRESS

Relaxation exercises and the method for relieving emotional distress (detailed in From Depression to Glorious Health) can both help to deal with the symptoms of tinnitus which can be very distressing

AVOID

Nicotine, tobacco, aspirin, coca cola and other carbonated drinks, caffeine and alcolohol have all been linked in some way to tinnitus.

So try to avoid all these if possible.
