Business : Is this a very naughty telecoms company? by richard perry on 10-Jan-06 8:30pm I do not have shares in this company.
I have been watching Globetel (Sanswire) for some many months, mainly because of their technology with high-altitude airships and their promise of using them to build mobile networks.
On January 6th, The Motley Fool trash them here, after their press release about getting a contract to connect 30 Russian cities with wireless communications.
That was Friday.
Yesterday, the company 'decloaked' by revealing a lot of new stuff.
Their aim is to do VOIP (voice over internet protocol), a bit like Skype, but also actually building stuff rather than running their whole business off the back of other people's IP (internet protocol) networks without their permission.
Anyway, let's cut to the chase. After months of hype, which the people at Motely Fool are clearly fed up with, the press release addition above reveals some interesting stuff. Like their team for instance.
The financial analysis from The Motely Fool last week is pretty clear - they ain't making any money at all, and the airship thing is still at least a year away.
Never mind, they have just signed a $600million deal to give Russia some 'instant' telecoms (27month delivery period).
I digress. Back to the revealing of some of their team -
here
Uli Altvater, President of GlobeTel Wireless worked for over 7 years with IBM in Germany developing and installing mainframe and networking products.
Robert Jones, President of a GlobeTel subsidiary, Sanswire Networks, who is a former NASA Mission Director and decorated Air Force pilot, has worked with Mr. Altvater for some time to create proprietary wireless solutions using unprecedented terrestrial wireless systems which integrate with Sanswire's soon-to-be-delivered near-space airship (the "Stratellite"), in order to produce what will be widely acknowledged to be the ultimate wireless delivery system.
Sir Christopher Meyer, Chairman of GlobeTel's Board of Directors and recent British Ambassador to the United States, brings more than 30 years of Foreign Service experience (starting with an initial posting to the former Soviet Union where he became fluent in Russian). In his senior roles supporting Prime Ministers Thatcher, Major and Blair - Sir Christopher's presence clearly reinforced GlobeTel's cross-border expertise and ability to operate comfortably in the international marketplace.
J.Randolph Dumas recently joined the company as a Director and as Executive Vice Chairman of the company, after more than two decades of successful experience working around the world as a senior Managing Director at Salomon Brothers International Ltd., and within his own international private equity firm. In fact, Mr. Dumas stepped down from his position as Managing Partner of Rubikon Partners in order to devote more time to the achievement of GlobeTel's international ambitions. (Rubikon Partners is a private investment group founded by Mr. Dumas, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Thomas "Mack" McLarty III (President Bill Clinton's first chief of staff)
That is just some of the team, de-cloaked for the first time yesterday.
You need to keep an eye on Globetel - they are perhaps the naughtiest telecoms company around.
They are not targetting the established Western World telecoms, they are looking to hoover up all the rest in one go.
One to watch at last I think.
This is not a pump-and-dump stock recommendation. Just watch this company I say, they are now moving very fast indeed.
