I disagree - I don't think conventional wisdom says that Fannie Mae doesn't have a chance. I think conventional wisdom says that they are not going anywhere because of how solid they are becoming, how important they are, the government has its hand full with other things and there is no way that they could put together a sound plan with all eyes on them to replace them. Sure its easy to point at the bill and say "look at it, its right there!" (thats something monest hind would say dopely) but how many bills fly around and get no where? Most of them. Out of 4,000 bills sponsored this year, how many passed? 15 ... .3% and those bills were things like the freedom to fish act which opened up some watershed to fish. But people actually think that a bill that will cost hundreds of billions of dollars and require the largest scale change to our housing finance structure will somehow pass and all this and Syria too. Get real.
