Disappointing Quarter for Tessera on earnings, but the big question that remains is whether or not the MEMS technology can be widely licensed. It appears Tessera is not going to be in the MEMS manufacturing business as they are placing their Zhuhai, China and Charlotte, NC facilities in the category of "discontinued operations".

Maybe the new management just decided it is best to license MEMS only, and not be in the manufacturing side of the business...but the question that remains is "were there manufacturing issues with MEMS that could not be solved?"

The IP licensing revenue drop was expected (Micron still hasn't re-signed a license) and the Hynix deal really hasn't kicked in yet. But the drop was a still a little more than I expected. The company is still flush with cash, so they have a big enough war chest to protect their IP if they have to initiate new litigation.

I wasn't able to listen to the call this morning, so maybe the MEMS issue and new litigation to protect their IP was addressed.
