All this nonsense about shorts was clarified a couple of years ago by Tom. He said, then, the shorts were only about 3 billion, so it should be no more than 5 billion, or $500,000 to cover. What the mm's are doing with those is their problem. Since they can loan the naked shares out to each other, the naked shorting could be close to 80 billion, as some have hyped.
