Just for the fun of it, I performed a search on "Linus Pauling cancer". The results were what I expected. "Pauling died of prostate cancer on August 19, 1994, at 7:20 pm at home in Big Sur, California." His initial research on vitamin C and cancer was shown to be inaccurate. The group on vitamin C regimen was shown not to have been as sick initially as the control group. Later work by the Mayo Clinic showed that 10,000 mg of vitamin C was no better than a placebo. Mayo wasn't completely right either, as vitamin C and zinc together has been proven to shorten the duration of colds, as in Cold-Eeze(R).

The Institute of Orthomolecular Medicine, aka Linus Pauling Institute, was actually run by Art Robinson. He has some interesting things to say about the results of research there. Art's still trying to get his notes back so he can publish his results. Just an argument between two scientists? Yup, but as Art says, Pauling bet that megadoses of vitamin C would cure his cancer. He lost the bet.
