I don't expect we will ever see a 256K Athlon64. I suspect the performance is just too poor to productize it.

The performance will be less than a 1MB Athlon-64, of course, probably by about 2 to 3 speed grades (of .2 GHz in this case). But then, the smaller chip area may allow a higher clock speed to gain back some of those speed grades.

This chip will be useful in low-end PCs and laptops once the 64-bit revolution (!) has started. After all, some of the sales for the 256KB L2 cache Athlon-64 will be wins from 2+ GHz Celerons. And how much cache do they have?

That being said, we have your opinion on record. The clock is ticking. 17 days to Opteron launch.
