Actually, let me clarify my personal dislike of QuantiSpeed. Ever since its invention, I have disliked it because it is confusing and completely arbitrary. There is no well-defined system to determine model numbers; it's just whatever number AMD's marketing department feels like slapping on.

In my very biased opinion, this is worse than Intel marketing to clock speeds. At least you can't fake a clock speed. Even though P4 sacrifices IPC in favor of clock speed, that's not a trivial task in itself. Plus there are good engineering reasons why Intel would go that route. It isn't (just) because of marketing, you know.
