If another person in pain found MMJ to have the same results as Dilaudid does for you, MMJ would be preferable for the treatment of their condition. Dilaudid (or hospital heroin) is highly abusive, can alter level of consciousness, suppress respiratory rate and have many other adverse effects. Yes, it works great for acute pain, when given via IV, PICC, or central line, however, for chronic pain MMJ could be just as effective in many cases. There is not one 'magic' medication for treatment of chronic pain. Pain is primarily subjective and having the option to use a treatment that is preferable would be very beneficial. Whatever best allows for a patient to perform the regular activities of their daily living routine is usually the best option.
