CENTERVILLE — A new Carmela’s Pizzeria will open in the next few weeks at 753 E. Franklin St. across from Centerville High School.

“We expect to open at the end of February or the beginning of March, but we’re shooting for the end of February,” said Emily Dulsky, daughter of Carmela’s founder Darren Dulsky. The location previously housed a Cassano’s Pizza King restaurant.

This is the third location of Carmela’s, which operates New York-style pizza restaurants in New Carlisle and in Springboro. Emily Dulsky said the company is looking to add restaurants in the region, and is considering Middletown for an upcoming location.

And the chain’s expansion may extend farther into other regions of the country. Colorado-based Greenfield Farms Food Inc. announced Tuesday that is has signed an agreement to purchase the Carmela’s chain in exchange for shares of Greenfield common stock and warrants.

Darren Dulsky, a Centerville resident who founded Carmela’s in 2004, said he and Greenfield Farms officials are seeking to franchise Carmela’s.
Dulsky said the restaurant chain has three different concepts from which franchisees can choose. Its New Carlisle location is a 4,000-square-foot full-service restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages; the Springboro restaurant is a 3,000-square-foot location with a buffet that includes ribs, vegetables and other items; and the Centerville location will be a 1,500-square-foot pizza shop that will focus primarily on carryout and delivery orders, with limited seating of about 30.

“Americans love pizza, and there is a proven track record within this multi-billion dollar industry for offerings outside of the typical giant pizza delivery chains,” said Greenfield Farms Food President Henry Fong. “It is our opinion that Carmela’s has built a solid business model offering quality food at affordable prices that can be scaled-up quickly with sufficient capital resources.”

The Centerville restaurant will employ 12 to 15. For more information, call (937) 203-0203 or check out the Carmela’s web site at www.carmelasohio.com.
