All steps in a manufacturing process should add value to the product. Obviously, that is not 100% attainable. But it is a goal to strive for.
Scrap, even if reusable, does not add value- it must be cut off and discarded or recycled, requiring labor, space, and resources that would otherwise be used for production.

All seems reasonable. I'll let those with any IM experience at all hash it out. I'll sit here waiting for that first real customer, an indication that something went right.
