NJ Gov Christie is calling for an election for Lautenberg's Senate seat to be held October 16 - the primary will be held in Aug...In the meantime, Christie intends to appoint a fill-in and as he said, it should be "someone like me". Initially I thought Christie would appoint someone who will not run for the seat, now I'm not so sure.
Newark Mayor Cory Bucker (D) has already announced he will run for the seat - now he has to step up his game and his fundraising. Holding a special election in Oct vs. in Nov when Christie is on the ballot helps Christie avoid being on the same ballot as the seemingly popular northern NJ mayor.
