Tenchu, because 4-way Opteron has ~1.2 of the average hop distance, while single-Itanium has 1 hop (northbridge).

So, 4-way Opteron works practically as a single chip with 4 cores on die. Intel is planning dual-core Itanium next year, but I'm not sure about 4-core Itanium. Opteron will have it next month.

4-way Itanium is sharing single bus and, although it has large cache and great performance, it is hard to compete with the architecture that has practically four processors working as a big one.
