also other cascades would be the kinase cascades which i did my thesis on - involving MAPK/ERK etc and involved in physiological metabolism etc

this doesnt take nanoseconds either, for instance when we look at things like apoptosis the decision for a cell to go into apoptosis will take at least a few seconds...which for the sake of argument would be 2x10^9 nanoseconds
