If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. Never go all in.
I'm currently trading (I don't invest) in fourths, with 3/4 in 3 different positions and 1/4 in cash.
All-in only works if: 1) you are extremely experienced. 2) you are truly at your prime, that day. 3) the stock you're looking at is a perfect storm and has the volume to clear your order.
You need all three and it happens far less often than not. I wouldn't even recommend looking for that timing, because you probably don't even have #1 down. I'm not even sure I have #1 down and I've been doing this for quite a while now.
