You could always go check out the real short numbers, not the dailies, here:

With an SP like HEPI hovers around at, there is room for playing both sides. It's not as bad as the triple zero junk that is impossible to retail short. I could certainly see someone selectively playing both sides. Personally it seems stupid and risky, but the numbers are at the link.
