I don't think anyone really understands the idea of FDA approval here. This is not the same type of FDA approval that "weight loss medications" claim to have or not have. This is an Investigational New Drug application, and approval here means that they have the go ahead to proceed with human trials. This is no way means the FDA approves or supports the drug, but rather they think it is safe enough to test in a controlled environment.
