Red Sox find new ways to lose....
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- It's only spring training, so Pedro Martinez and Shea Hillenbrand of the Boston Red Sox could share a good laugh about a strange play Saturday.
Leading off the third inning against Martinez, Tampa Bay Devil Rays catcher Toby Hall hit a groundball to third base that bounced up and disappeared down Hillenbrand's shirt.
The umpires called the play dead and ruled Hall was entitled to an extra base, sending him to second. With two outs, the Devil Rays got three straight hits and scored three unearned runs off Martinez.
That proved to be the difference in a 3-2 Devil Rays win that dropped the Boston ace to 0-2 in spring training.
``I was looking around, and I kept wondering, 'where's the ball?''' Martinez laughed afterwards. ``All of a sudden he touches himself on the belly and he finds the ball there. I said, what are you doing, what's up with that weird thing, weird play?''
For those who understand no explanation is needed, ...For those who don't none will.
