I seen where someone had posted about up to 14 employees at the site.

Look under the General Information section here:

http://www.msha.gov/FATALS/2010/FTL10m09.asp

The Discovery Day Mine, an underground gold mine operated by Gold Run Enterprises LLC, is located near Forks of Salmon, Siskiyou County, California. The principal operating official is Patrick A. Fagen, manager. The mine normally operates one 10 hour shift per day, for 10 to 14 days, with one to two weeks between rotations. Total employment is 14 persons.

Operational Status - The Discovery Day mine was in production as recently as the spring of 2010, when a tragic accident claimed the life of the mining supervisor. Operations at the mine were suspended pending the accident investigation and the public company funding the project abandoned the JV due to liability concerns. The owners have since addressed all of the pending issues stemming from the accident and are preparing the mine to re-commence operations.

In Production? What's that mean? That means 14 guys were just digging in the dirt for fun?

Amazing 14 guys were wasting their time as late as 2010 at a place where there is no gold?

Hmmm. LOL!!!
