In the abstract, what do they mean by "...greater non-linearity"?

Isn't it either a straight line of atoms, or circled atoms like a wagon train standing off Indians, the latter being much stronger?

So it is either linear or non-linear

Could this be a hybrid that is better than traditonal polymers but not as good as perk?
