What you describe may be caused by a loose cable between your disk and motherboard. If so, the fix is easy. Simply re-insert the connectors. Be sure they settle in with a solid "landed home" feeling.

If the cable supplying power to the drive is doing its job, the platters will spin. This is easy to ascertain by touching the running drive. (Take precautions against static electricity.)
