It could be an insider trying to keep people interested before they release a pr, it could be just a big risk taker, or it could be a big short covering. If its an insider then this doesn't confirm that the stock or the acquisition is legitimate because if its a fraud they would still would want to make every effort to keep interest high before dumping after the pr, which is actually the most probable explanation for an insider if its based on manipulation.
