I can also comment on this from an IT / email retention policy perspective.

Many companies implement comprehensive email and document retention policies that limit how much electronic communication can be located "reasonably" in the event of an e-discovery request. I suspect that t-mobile is likely in this boat as well. Many of the people that Calypso is requesting email for probably are no longer with the company which can make locating their email quite difficult if not impossible.

Most large corporations like T-mobile would have an email or document retention policy of 3 to 7 years depending on how the communication was classified and the corporations taste for e-discovery costs and legal risk.

Although I'd like to see Calypso have as much ammo as possible, the Judge's rulings here didn't throw off any huge alarms for me.
